PureEdge and XMLSolutions Join Forces to Expand EDI-XML e-Commerce

Strategic Alliance Enables Global 2000 and Government to Conduct Regulated, Legally Binding E-commerce Transactions

SAN FRANCISCO/MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 2000-- PureEdge, leading provider of legally binding e-commerce software, and XMLSolutions, worldwide provider of XML-based infrastructure software and services, have signed an agreement to combine PureEdge's award-winning InternetForms Commerce System(TM) with XMLSolutions' XEDI Translator.

Together, PureEdge and XMLSolutions will allow organizations to leverage their investment in EDI by integrating legacy systems with partners and processes that were previously excluded from EDI-based relationships.

``As the deployment of e-commerce and e-government offerings accelerates, enterprises need to integrate their EDI systems with a growing network of trading partners and citizens who use the Web,'' said David Manning, CTO of PureEdge. ``PureEdge is pleased to partner with XMLSolutions to create legally binding, end-to-end EDI-XML solutions that embrace not only large enterprises and traditional processes, but also small to mid-sized enterprises and heavily regulated business processes.''

``Over 80% of business agreements and processes are embodied in forms,'' said Kevin Kail, Chairman and CEO of XMLSolutions. ``We chose to partner with PureEdge because its InternetForms software completely addresses the legal needs of Internet transactions. The combination of XMLSolutions and PureEdge serves to extend -- not replace -- EDI systems. That's a huge step forward for e-business.''

E-Commerce: From EDI to XML

XMLSolutions' XEDI Translator provides the most expansive, completely customizable EDI solution, expanded trading communities and cost reduction in trade transaction process and fulfillment. XEDI Translator bolts on to existing EDI systems and acts as an extension of that system to the Internet.

PureEdge's InternetForms Commerce System enables organizations to create, complete, sign, and process legally binding XML documents. InternetForms eliminates the need for paper records and enables organizations to conduct sophisticated e-commerce agreements from a Web browser.

The PureEdge-XMLSolutions integration will enable organizations using EDI to establish full trading relationships with partners of any size. InternetForms provide a legally binding XML front end to EDI systems, and appear as human-readable and familiar form interfaces to trading partners accessing them from Web browsers. A partner at a small or medium-sized enterprise can use a browser to open an InternetForm -- such as a purchase order, invoice, or other contractual agreement -- and fill, save, sign, and submit it for processing, thereby interacting with an EDI system that was previously available only to other EDI systems.
