XMLSolutions Announces the Launch of XEDI.ORG

XML Representation of EDI Endorsed by Aerospace Industry Association

MCLEAN, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 2, 1999--Northern Virginia-based XMLSolutions today announced the launch of XEDI.ORG.

XEDI (zee-dee) is an approach to the XML representation of EDI (electronic data interchange) documents. The Aerospace Industry Association, which represents every aerospace manufacturer in the United States, has been testing the XEDI solution, and has endorsed this approach as the standard approach to XML EDI.

``Our major reason for moving to XML is to provide a single file format that can be used in both a web browser and in an integrated systems application. This eliminates the biggest EDI drawback that is the cost and complexity of PC based EDI for small and medium enterprises,'' said Tom Warner, Chair, EC Harmonization Subcommittee, Aerospace Industry Association of America.

Warner continued, ``The Aerospace Industry Association EC Work Group has discovered a simple, non intrusive, cost effective way of moving from EDI to XML EDI without all the hassle that is associated with the current XML consortium activities. The AIA endorsed XEDI Approach is unique in that a single, very simple document type definition (DTD) is used to define all versions of all X12 and EDIFACT transaction sets. The other unique feature of this approach is that it makes use of existing ANSI X12 EDI standards dictionaries in XML form, making every EDI implementation in every industry immediately usable in XML without the lengthy DTD development process that is so prevalent.''

Kevin Kail, CEO, XMLSolutions stated, ``Due to the fact that this approach supports every document in every version of X12 and EDIFACT today, companies in any industry can immediately expand the value of their existing EDI investments.''

Information on the XEDI approach to XML representation of EDI is available to the general public at http://www.xedi.org and is an open source, open definition project.
