I missed the first couple of seasons and tried to watch it a bit in the 3rd season but just couldn't engage with it. I bought all five seasons and just finished the 2nd. It's an amazing show. Personally, I don't mind buying ala carte for this content. That's why I happily cancelled satellite TV and simply have an HD antennae for broadcast shows. I been doing a similar thing watching through the seasons of The Wire, which aired a while ago on HBO.
